John Boni is checking on possibly getting a "moving" trailer that will allow us to setup a false, second floor using crossmember supports provided with the trailer.  We would have to provide about 12 sheets of 1/4-1/2" plywood to make the floor.  John and Craig are going to checkout the trailer either tonight (6/18) or tomorrow and will let us know.

Jim McCune went to the container company today to inspect the prototype container that was built for the Stations of the Cross.  The pictures are above.

I am still awaiting word from St. Richards on what time they will let us in to begin the move on June 27.  Please plan on it being early, however.  It will likely be between 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. for a start time.  I will keep you posted.

I called Doug at Firestone and let him know that we were interested in borrowing the trailer. I then called Ken to give him Doug's number so they could coordinate.  I am going to email Ken with Doug's number because he was busy at the time.  There might be a hangup with picking up the trailer since Firestone is not open on the weekend.  I made Ken aware of that and he mentioned that he might be able to get another 53' trailer for us to use instead.

I'd still like to think that we could find a "moving van" type trailor so we could do it in one trip - but I have talked to Ken Ringer again and he is willing to help us out on that date with his tractor/cab. Eric - can you let Doug at Firestone know that we will graciously accept his generocity and use their trailor. What time are we starting? Can you also let Ken know a time and place so he can drive over there, hook up the trailor and be ready to go at St Richards at our start time. His cell number is 659-6107 - you can also email him at: kenringer@cox.net. Also, post any additional info here so I know what's going on since I'll keep in touch with Ken as well and probably ride with him that day. If you have any questions, you can email me at craig@directtouchmarketing.com or call me at the office 334-7798.

I was able to possibly obtain a donated 53' dry van trailer if we have a tractor to pull it.  Doug Firestone at Jim Hawk Trailers in Council Bluffs said that he'd donate a trailer for our use.  Doug can be reached at 402.681.0838.

I have an idea for hauling the pews if we end up using a flatbed trailer.  In order to make the pews secure and avoid any damage, I think we should take a 2"x4"x8' stud and screw it to the bottom of the feet/legs of each pew to make one, secure, solid set of 4 pews that can then be set on top of the first layer of pews.  This will minimize the amount of lumber we need as we'd only need 2 - 2"x4"s for each set of 4 pews.  This would allow us to haul up to 32 pews on a 48'+ trailer.  Depending on how secure they ended up being, maybe we could even stack a third row if it didn't end up being too high to reach.  Any input?  Just an idea, but I thought it would be much safer than trying to stack them using plywood or any other means.  What do you guys think?

I have a Knight from another parish that I know who has a large cab - however, although his trailor is large - we figured it would still take 4 trips to hall them all since we could only comfortably get about 16 pews in a standard trailor. He is going to check with a couple trailor places today to see if they would let him use a "taller" trailor, like moving companies use, so we could stand them up and hall them in one trip. I don't know a cost yet, or even if there will be any, but I'll report back after I hear from him. He also said if that doesn't work - a lot of times a moving company or someone like Nebraska Furniture Mart will let you use a trailor if they know it is for a church and they know he has a truck with all insurance papers, etc in place. If that is the case, we would need to make a few calls to find out.

As stated erlier, I am out of town the week of the move, however, I am willing to go over the prior week to pack things up or to move smaller items, if needed.

I think someone was going to talk to a truck driver, I can not rember who that was, but I think that would be real helpful.  Those pews are going to take a long time to transfer from St. Richards if we dont have a large vehicle to load them in.  The box thing sounds like it is right on track for the stations.

Looks like we are on the right track.  Agree on getting containers for the stations.

I just spoke to Mike M. and Jim McCune found a container company that will build us containers for the Stations of the Cross for $30 each, which is only $5 more per container/box than we could build them for.  We are planning to go to St. Richards this Saturday morning to take down one of the Stations and deliver it to this container company so that they can build us a prototype for evaluation.  We would still need to obtain packing material to secure the object inside the container.  I will call National Paper and inquire about that and post my findings here.

I think the box idea is a great long term solution and I would go with that option. I also think it will make storage easier. Really $350 is not that much money for the value we would get from it.

I found out from Nebraska Furniture Mart that they purchase their corrugated cardboard and bubble wrap from National Paper Company (330-5507).  I called and spoke to a lady there (forgot her name) about what they had available that might suit our needs.  They have the following items and can sell directly to us for the prices listed:

12" x 750' Bubble Wrap - $66.42
48" x 500' Bubble Wrap - $114
36" x 250' Corrugated - $37.07
54" x 250' Corrugated - $43.65

I spoke to Craig and John at mass on Sunday and Craig thinks we need to build boxes for the Stations of the Cross to better protect them.  If we do that, we would need exact dimensions (if they're different than 3'Wx5'Hx12"D) to build the correct size boxes out of plywood.  We'd also need packing peanuts or other material to secure the items inside the box once packaged.  I will find out from National what their price is on those when the gal emails me back (she was going to find out more about the 48" x 500' Bubble Wrap since it was labeled as "12" Split" and she wasn't sure what that meant).  I will post more when have receive.

If we do the plywood boxes, we could build them in my garage with the help of two or three guys.  I have the tools necessary (other than maybe bringing a couple more cordless drills and/or a nail gun that shot 1.5" nails to speed the process) to build them already.  I calculated that we would need 38 sheets of 4'x8' plywood and if we purchased something like 7/16" OSB, those cost $5.47 from Home Depot for a total cost of $208 for the plywood.  We'd also need some 2"x2"x8' lumber to use as the tacking/support peice in the corners of the inside of the box using 4 on each box at $1.92 each for a total of $108.  Depending on whether someone had a nail gun that we could use, which would affect whether we had to exclusively use screws (which probably cost a little bit more than nails), the total cost would be around $350 to build boxes, not including the cost for packing peanuts.

St. Richards Moving
This discussion is for the St. Richards moving project that Father has asked us to handle.  We are planning to move the following items:

50 - 12'L Pews
14 - 3'Wx5'Hx12"D Stations of the Cross
Several Marble Tables and Alter Furniture

Please post replies with your ideas and suggestions on how to make the move efficient and successful.  We need to know more about the destination location of these items so that we can figure out if/how to stack the items.  We also need to figure out the transportation vehicle(s) and how many trips it will take based on the size of the vehicle(s) and number and size of items being moved once packaged.
